Kanaa Blood Donation Camp - Aug 2014

Date : 15-Aug-2014
Venue : Christ King Girl's Hr. Sec School, East Tambaram.

"Human blood is one of the most precious gifts a human being can give to another. No wonder the blood donors are called saviors of mankind. If someone really loves oneself and other fellow beings, voluntary blood donation is an exemplary method to express it. "

On the occassion of 68th Indian Independence day (Aug 15,2014), a blood donation camp was organized at Christ King Girl's Hr. Sec. School, East Tambaram. The camp was organized by "KANAA CHARITABLE TRUST" in the school campus under the supervision of sister Karunya(Head Mistress, Christ King School) along with a supporting staff Mrs. Daisy. This camp helped students in getting awareness about their social responsibilities. The Camp started at 09:45 a.m and went up to 2:00 p.m. A team of 10 members came from Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital Blood bank to conduct the camp.

According to the information presented on the occasion, only 50 percent of the country's blood requirement is fulfilled through such blood donation camps. Hence, there is a need to create awareness amongst our youth for active participation in such a noble cause. Prior to the camp an introductory speech regarding the blood donation and the importance of blood was given by Mr.RenuKarthick Sukumar, Kanaa Charitable trust.

The camp is organized in a much disciplined manner checking each and every aspect of participant's health. It was great to see more people than per-registration numbers turning up in the venue. Not only men, but, large number of women also came forward to donate blood. Due to such brave women's the percentage of women's donating blood has augmented worldwide.

During the blood donation process after registration set of checkups like blood pressure and other tests were conducted by the medical team. Then, the hemoglobin content of the particpants were checked before donating the blood, clearly telling the particpans about their health condition. After the medical check-up of the donors where taken to the blood donation are where blood was taken.

Refreshments were provided to the donors after donating blood. The donors received certificate of recognition from blood bank. Students from Nursing group & NSS unit of Christ King Girl's Hr. Sec. School helped the participants and gave moral support to them for donating blood along with Kanaa Volunteers.

Finally, the collected blood were carefully sealed and transported away to the hospital, while the volunteers and hospital staffs helped in all activities. Throughout the day, there were smiles and laughter all around - a true embodment of what we believe in - selfless service with a smile.

Students of NSS Unit & Nursing group of Christ King Girl's Hr. Sec. School were provided a certificate of appreciation from KANAA CHARITABLE TRUST for helping & volunteering the camp.

Our sincere thanks to Sister Karunya, Headmistress - Christ King Girl's Hr. Sec School, Mrs. Daisy, Staff - Christ King Girl's Hr. Sec School for helping and providing the venue to conduct blood donation camp.

Kanaa Blood Donation Camp - Aug 2013

To the young and healthy it’s no loss. To sick it’s hope of life. Donate Blood to give back life.

Date : 15/08/2013
Venue : Cantonment School, Pallavaram

Kanaa conducted a blood donation camp on the 15th of August,2013 – Independence Day, in the Cantonment Primary School, Pallavaram.

The camp started at 9am an intended, our Kanaa volunteers were in the venue by time. It was a gloomy day and it was drizzling all morning. Thus slowing down the donors’ arrival. Meanwhile our volunteers reminded all the donors who had registered online for the camp. As the day progressed, rain god showed mercy and sky cleared up. The donors turned up slowly and our volunteers helped them to fill in the forms and guided them to the doctors.

We had over 65 donors and over 60 units of blood by the end of the session. This count wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts taken by our volunteers to promote the camp. All the blood units were collected for VHS blood bank.

We are happy and thankful to Mrs. Sathya Natarajan for her kindness and involvement without which this event would not have been a success. We are also thankful for the tasty food she served us with. A special mention about Prof. (Dr.) Antony D’Silva our event partner from MY MASTER for the active participation in the camp.

The blood you donate gives someone another chance at life. One day that someone may become a relative, a friend, a loved one.

We thank each and every one who came forward and donated blood to make an essential difference in someone’s life. All these donors experienced their perfect day.

Success of an event lies as much in the hands of the organizers as much as in active participation. Our success is the end product of time tested techniques concocted with the experience obtained through various events, and execution perfected by the dedication of our volunteers. The time and effort expended in spreading the awareness about this noble cause was well justified by the substantial response obtained from the public. This serves as an inspiration to conduct more life transforming events.

About Us

Old women on the roadside beg for food, street children lack nutrition and look hungry, a disease attacked man is found on the roadside, lacking proper treatment.

On seeing these people, we pitied them and decided to help them. But we couldn’t due to economic constraints during our school days.

During our college days we got a chance to help these people. We formed a group and started helping orphanages and homes that provided food and shelter.

Later, we realised that most of the orphanages and homes get enough funds (money) for running their organisation and also enough support from public. So we looked out for a good cause wherein we could help the needful.

Thus, we focused ourselves to serving people and society directly. We discussed among ourselves and named our organization KANAA (Kanavu).

KANAA is a social welfare trust founded by a young and vibrant group of friends. Since 2012 Kanaa has been a non-profit and non-governmental organisation runned by a group of enthusiastic friends with a vision of empowering the society .The aim of Kanaa would be to invoke the unique personality of a child and also to motivate adults to be responsible citizens who will be role models for future generations.
Kanaa was established on 19 October 2012.

All our programmes are designed to ensure:

1) Provision of basic needs, free food, clothing, education and medical aid to orphaned children and aged people.

2) Organisation and conduction of programmes to educate youth, illiterates and downtrodden people and guide them to be good citizens in society and to serve the country.

3) Helps underprivileged children by providing access to extracurricular activities like sports, music, dance, art, learning foreign languages, etc.

4) Help and guidance of the weaker sections for better development by providing drinking water and organizing medical camps for the poor and needy people.

5) Making certain the educational privileges reach children who are unable to attend school.

6) Conduction of blood donation camps and social awareness camps.

7) Enabling the disabled to acquire skills for employment.

The Kanaa team comprises corporate professionals, MBAs, who bring their experiences and perspectives to the organisation and are unified by the common vision of improving society.
