About Us

Old women on the roadside beg for food, street children lack nutrition and look hungry, a disease attacked man is found on the roadside, lacking proper treatment.

On seeing these people, we pitied them and decided to help them. But we couldn’t due to economic constraints during our school days.

During our college days we got a chance to help these people. We formed a group and started helping orphanages and homes that provided food and shelter.

Later, we realised that most of the orphanages and homes get enough funds (money) for running their organisation and also enough support from public. So we looked out for a good cause wherein we could help the needful.

Thus, we focused ourselves to serving people and society directly. We discussed among ourselves and named our organization KANAA (Kanavu).

KANAA is a social welfare trust founded by a young and vibrant group of friends. Since 2012 Kanaa has been a non-profit and non-governmental organisation runned by a group of enthusiastic friends with a vision of empowering the society .The aim of Kanaa would be to invoke the unique personality of a child and also to motivate adults to be responsible citizens who will be role models for future generations.

Date    : 23/11/2011
Venue : Pallavapuram municipality high school, Jamin Royapettai, Chromepet.
Chief Guest : Mr. R.Ravindran,
                      Correspondent, Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Chromepet.

“It is not healthy to swallow books without them”

After a discussion with the Headmaster, Mr. Saviour, of the Municipality School, Jamin Royapettai, we at Kanaa planned for the improvement of government school students' English knowledge by inculcating in them the habit of using a dictionary.

To implement this process, we targeted the sixth, seventh and eighth grade students of the school.

We also planned for a motivational speech by a speaker who could evoke the students’ thoughts towards the present educational process.

We chose Mr. R. Ravindran, Correspondent, Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Chromepet, and approached him regarding this. He complied and we scheduled the function.

Even though it was a usual hectic working day, KANAA volunteers and guest Mr. R. Ravindran, Correspondent of Vivekananda Vidyalaya Matriculation school, reached the school premises around 9 A.M with the warm welcome by busy students, caring teachers and principal along with the chill welcome by our ‘Varna Bhagawan’.

Chief guest Mr.R.Ravindran, Correspondent, Vivekananda Vidhyalaya School distributing the dictionaries to the childrens. Mr.Saviour, Headmaster, Pallavapuram Municipality High School, Chrompet and Mr.Ln.J.Suresh Kumar along with.

Mr. Ravindran presented a good, motivational thought to the students. He spoke about the ancient system of education and compared it to the current system. He started with the story of zero, pie and algebra and went into mathematics by asking few simple questions to interact well with the students present over there. Later, he concluded by explaining the current educational system and their learning process.

Finally, he distributed 105 dictionaries to the sixth- and seventh-grade students.

Mr. Saviour was very excited about this event as no student made a noise or disturbed the function, which in his experience was new. Also, he requested Mr. Ravindran to provide 100 more dictionaries for eighth-grade students.

Mr. Ravindran accepted his request and handed over the cost for dictionaries to Mr. S. Renu Karthick of Kanaa team and 120 dictionaries were again distributed to the eight-grade students on 26 January 2012.

This was the first feather in the cap for our team.
